茶陵总面积2500平方公里，辖18个乡镇（街道、办事处），242个村（社区），总人口65万，汉高祖五年（公元前202年）置县，宋代升县为军（地方政府机构），元、明、清为州府。茶陵对外“名片”主要可概括为四句话：红色摇篮、学士故里、中国唯一以“茶”命名的行政县、湘赣边中心县。“红色摇篮”：即茶陵是井冈山革命根据地六县（茶陵、炎陵、宁冈、永新、莲花、遂川）之一，为新中国建立牺牲了5万余人，走出了25位开国将军。
