“中华文史网”目前主要为清史编纂委员会及其下属部门提供网络信息服务，即时通过网络对外发布项目招标等相关信息。从发展趋势来说，“中华文史网”将努力探索博大精深的中华文明的各个分支，建设成为一个中华学术的网络研究平台。 清史是纷呈多彩的中华文化的一个重要组成部分。作为清史纂修辅助性工程的“中华文史网”一方面要将清史研究作为主要内容，一方面也要关注国学研究，全方位地反映当前的文史研究成果，将源远流长的中华传统文化完整、丰富地呈现出来。可以说，“中华文史网”的根本宗旨就是要致力于批判继承中华传统文化，吸收融汇世界文明，培育创新民族精神。这也是“中华文史网”创办的初衷。
